The Skylarks maintain a flying field southeast of Hastings. The field has a 30′ by 300′ north-south asphalt runway surrounded by short grass. Take Highway 6 east of Hastings to Maxon Avenue. Maxon Avenue is the first intersection east of the railroad tracks. Go south on Maxon Avenue 2.3 miles to Cornhusker Avenue. Go straight west (don’t turn) until you come to the field. The road turns into gravel at the end. The GPS coordinates of the field are North 40 degrees 32.835 and West 98 degrees 18.578. The field elevation is 1,913 feet.
Visitors are always welcome to fly or to watch. Current AMA membership is required to fly at the field.
The Skylarks have club meetings at 7:00 pm the first Wednesday of each month from March through October. Meetings are held at the flying field except during inclement weather. Indoor flying sessions are held on the first and third Sundays of the month from November through February. The sessions are held at the Hastings Middle School (2nd and Marion) and run from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Club meetings are held on the first Sunday of these months during the indoor flying session. You are welcome to stop by and see what the Skylarks are all about.
The Skylarks put on several flying and static demonstrations each year. They also host a fun fly each summer in mid August. Check the listing of events for dates and places.
